NatPROB release the symposium: Natural Products as Sources of Therapeutic Agents for Oral Diseases Prevention

90th General Session & Exhibition of the IADR - International Association for Dental Research
June 20-23, 2012 in Iguaçu Falls, Brazil
Symposium Program
Title of Symposium
“Natural Products as Sources of Therapeutic Agents for Oral Diseases Prevention”

Date - Wednesday, June, 20, 2012: 4:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Location – Bourbon Hotel, Iguaçu Falls, Brazil
Description
Natural products and their derivatives offers a rich source of structurally diverse and wide range of biologically active substances which could be useful for development of alternative or adjunctive agents to prevent or treat oral infectious diseases, such as dental caries and periodontal diseases. However, research using natural products for oral diseases prevention is challenging owing to complex chemistry and isolation procedures of natural products. The confluence of new isolation/analytical technologies with advances in ‘omics’-based knowledge and in (bio)synthetic chemistry will certainly enhance future investigations of using natural products in oral research. This symposium provides an overview of the current status, challenges, scientific methodologies, and prospects for use of naturally occurring compounds in the development of novel therapies against oral diseases.
